May 15, 2009 11:44am

Wichita, KS—Robert Mark, an award-winning aviation journalist and editor of Jetwhine.com, one of the industry’s most widely-read blogs, will speak at the monthly luncheon of the Wichita Aero Club on May 19, 2009. In recent months, as business and general aviation have been under verbal attack from pundits and politicians, he’s also become a prominent spokesperson for the industry on CBS, ABC and Fox News network programs. The luncheon will be held at the Wichita Airport Hilton at noon. Tickets can be purchased online at www.WichitaAeroClub.org or can be reserved by calling 316.641.5962.

Although he is an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and a contributing editor to Aviation International News, Mr. Mark doesn’t just write about flying. He’s also a former airline and corporate pilot, as well as a current Certified Flight Instructor. He’s logged over 6000 hours in aircraft from a Cessna 150 to the Embraer Legacy to the Boeing BBJ. Ten years of his career was also devoted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In 2004, he was named the Airbus Aerospace Journalist of the Year. Author of four aviation books for McGraw-Hill, he has also written for Business & Commercial Aviation, Professional Pilot, FLTops.com, Flying and Air Line Pilot magazine, as well as The Chicago Tribune.
As a professional speaker, Rob Mark has engaged audiences on a variety of aviation topics at regional, as well as national convention meetings from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), the Florida Aviation Trades Association, the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), the Minnesota Aviation Trade Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). He will undoubtedly discuss the use of both conventional and social media in communications during his Wichita Aero Club address.

The Wichita Aero Club was founded in October of 2008. The organization was established to foster and promote interest in aviation, provide a forum focused on the industry’s issues and achievements and bring together those with a passion for flight in an environment that expands and enhances professional relationships and furthers cooperation and understanding. Future WAC luncheons will include AirTran Airways CEO Bob Fornaro on June 23, Kansas Congressman and senatorial candidate Todd Tiahrt on July 13, National Business Aviation Association President Ed Bolen on September 23 and former FAA Administrator and current Aerospace Industries Association President Marion Blakey on October 13.
